Alberta Introduces Online Tool to Help Foreign Nationals Assess AAIP Eligibility

The Government of Alberta has introduced a new digital tool called the AAIP Eligibility Explorer to help foreign nationals determine their potential eligibility under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). The new tool was launched on June 17, 2026, and is available through the Alberta government’s AAIP updates webpage.
The users are given a short, guided questionnaire about their personal circumstances. On the basis of the response, the tool generates a list of AAIP streams that may align with their profile and provides links to review program requirements and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Users have to first provide the response to whether they intend to live and work in Alberta or start and operate a business in the province. Candidates who intend to live and work in Alberta are asked in the questionnaire about the job offers, residency status, work permit type, and National Occupational Classification (NOC) code. Candidates interested in entrepreneurship are asked about their educational background, available investment funds, and interest in establishing a business in rural Alberta.

The Alberta government has stated that the Eligibility Explorer is only a guidance tool, and the results do not confirm eligibility for an AAIP stream and do not guarantee that a candidate will receive an invitation after submitting an EOI.

The AAIP currently offers four streams for workers, which are Alberta Opportunity; Alberta Express Entry (includes four pathways—Dedicated Health Care, Accelerated Tech, Law Enforcement, and Priority Sectors); Rural Renewal; and Tourism and Hospitality. It also provides four entrepreneur streams, which are Rural Entrepreneur, Graduate Entrepreneur, Farm, and Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur.

The new tool is expected to reduce confusion, make stream identification easier, save applicants time, and lower the risk of submitting incorrect or ineligible applications.
