Ontario Increases Minimum Pay to $17.95 in 2026

Ontario has confirmed the increase in the minimum wage for workers in the province in 2026. The minimum wage revision will be effective from October 1, 2026, and it will rise to $17.95 per hour. This increase indicates a $0.35 (1.9%) increase from the current $17.60 wage.

The special minimum wage rates for students, homeworkers, and wilderness guides will also hike in 2026. The new minimum wage increase will affect the vast majority of workers in Ontario in diverse sectors. It will affect employees in the sectors such as retail, restaurants, hotels, factories, offices, healthcare facilities, schools, and other provincially regulated workplaces.

The new wage in 2026 will help workers manage rising living expenses while maintaining economic stability.

In each year a new rate revision is expected. The rate revision announcement is mostly made on or before April 1 each year, and the implementation will take effect on October 1, giving workers a clear timeline to manage the income changes.
