Provinces Set to Nominate More Immigrants Under 2026 PNP

The provincial immigration allocations for 2026 have been significantly raised in Canada by the federal government. The nomination quotas under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) for each province and territory have been increased by about 31% compared to the allocation announced for each nominee program in early 2025. This gives the provinces and territories the ability to nominate more candidates for permanent residence, expanding the opportunities for skilled immigrants.

Ontario has the largest allocations with 14,119 nominations in 2026, Alberta has the second highest with 6,403 nominations. Manitoba has 6,239 nominations; British Columbia has 5,254 nominations. Further, Saskatchewan has been allotted 4,761 spots, while smaller regions like Yukon (282) and the Northwest Territories (197) also saw similar percentage increases. The provinces, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island have not yet officially released their 2026 total nomination allocations. However, if the same growth trend applies, their allocations are expected to rise proportionally.

Nomination allocations ascertain how many candidates each province can recommend for permanent residence in a year. A provincial nomination is not the final step, applicants are still required to apply for PR to the federal government for approval. The nomination spots and actual permanent resident admissions under the immigration levels plan of the government are different.
