Manitoba Announces Work Permit Extensions for Provincial Nominee Candidates

Manitoba Members of Parliament have announced the proposal for extending work permits for approximately 2,700 workers who are waiting for their permanent residence through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). This proposed extension is expected to remain valid until the end of 2027 and will allow the eligible workers to continue to work legally in Canada while their provincial nomination applications are processed.

The initiative is referred to as the Manitoba Workforce Transition Bridge (MWTB). The proposal is to support candidates who are affected by the lengthy processing times and reduced provincial nomination allocations.

The federal government has not yet released official details regarding the work permit extension. The eligibility criteria, procedures for applying or when the measures will be implemented are yet to be announced. The proposal also has to be approved by the government of Manitoba before it can be implemented.

If approved and implemented the work permit extension will provide greater stability for eligible candidates, which will enable them to maintain their employment and continue contributing to Manitoba's economy while pursuing Canadian permanent residence.
