To retain temporary foreign workers whose work permits are expiring in 2026 or earlier Nova Scotia has announced a one-time expansion of its provincial immigration nominations. The additional nominations under the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) aim to address the province's labour shortages while providing eligible workers with a pathway to permanent residence.
To be eligible, a candidate must have submitted an active Expression of Interest (EOI) on or before June 30, 2026, and also meet any of the several eligibility criteria. The criteria include working in key economic sectors, earning at least CAD 27 per hour in any occupation, earning at least CAD 20 per hour in eligible sales and service occupations, graduating from a Nova Scotia post-secondary institution, or living and working outside the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Selected candidates will be directly contacted by the Department. Those who are not selected will remain in the EOI pool for future consideration. The province will continue to prioritize occupations facing critical labour shortages, including healthcare, skilled trades, and essential community services. Existing priority occupation streams will remain unchanged.
