New Brunswick Extends Student Pathway to Permanent Residence Until 2027

The Canadian province of New Brunswick has announced that it has extended the Private Career College Graduate Pilot until December 31, 2027. The extension will provide eligible international students already enrolled in approved programs who would not have graduated before the pilot's original end date with more time to pursue permanent residence (PR) in Canada.

The pilot is available only to graduates of eligible programs offered at Oulton College and Eastern College. Students graduating from these colleges typically do not qualify for Canada's Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Without the pilot program they would face challenges in maintaining their legal status in Canada after completing their studies.

The pilot allows graduates of these colleges to be considered for provincial nomination if they graduate from an eligible program, meet the language proficiency requirements, intend to reside in New Brunswick, and secure a full-time job offer related to their field of study. They can submit an Expression of Interest to the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP). Successful applicants can then apply for a provincial nomination. Once nominated, they may qualify for a work permit that allows them to continue working while their permanent residence application is processed.

The extension therefore provides a valuable pathway for eligible graduates to continue living and working in New Brunswick while pursuing permanent residence. Skilled international graduates will be retained in the province and may be able to fill the gap in sectors facing persistent labour shortages, particularly healthcare and early child education while supporting the economic growth of the province.
