Canada has extended the validity of active Remote Area Border Crossing (RABC) permits until November 30, 2026, giving travellers additional time before the program ends. The RABC Program, which allows eligible travellers to enter Canada through certain remote border areas without visiting a traditional port of entry, will officially close on December 1, 2026.
After the closure, travellers using affected remote crossings will need to report their entry to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) through designated telephone reporting sites or at a CBSA port of entry. The new reporting system will cover areas including the Northwest Angle, Lake Superior’s Canadian shore and Cockburn Island. The changes will mainly affect U.S. travellers, who represent about 90% of RABC members. The CBSA is no longer accepting new permit applications.
