Canada has announced that a new biometrics collection site will open in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, in January 2027. The facility will allow people applying for Canadian immigration services to provide their fingerprints and photographs locally.
Currently, many Labrador residents must travel to St. John’s, Newfoundland, to complete their biometrics, involving a journey of about 900 km by air or 1,600 km by car and ferry. The new site is expected to significantly reduce this travel burden.
Biometrics are required for many temporary and permanent residence applications, as well as certain permanent resident card renewals. Immigration Minister Lena Diab announced the new facility on September 29, 2026. The opening is expected to make Canada’s immigration process more accessible for applicants living in Labrador.
