Greater Sudbury is expanding opportunities for French-speaking foreign nationals seeking Canadian permanent residence through the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP). The region can advance up to 85 French-speaking candidates who have local job offers and meet the program’s requirements. As of August 30, Sudbury had already recommended 32 candidates, leaving 53 available spaces.
The FCIP is designed to help smaller Canadian communities attract and retain French-speaking workers while strengthening Francophone communities outside Quebec. Selected candidates receive community recommendations and can then apply to the federal government for permanent residence.
The initiative provides another potential PR route for eligible French-speaking workers with local employment in Sudbury and highlights Canada’s continued focus on Francophone immigration.
