Canada’s immigration department has released its latest processing-time update, with several permanent residence and citizenship applications now facing longer waits. The figures, updated on September 3, show that processing for the Federal Skilled Worker Program under Express Entry increased from six to seven months. Spousal sponsorship applications submitted from outside Canada, outside Quebec, also rose to 18 months from 17 months. Searches of citizenship records increased to 18 months.
Some categories, however, saw improvements. Processing times for spouses or common-law partners applying from within Canada, outside Quebec, dropped from 27 to 26 months, while the Parents and Grandparents Program decreased from 29 to 28 months.
For applicants in Quebec, parent and grandparent sponsorship processing also improved slightly, falling to 63 months. Meanwhile, Provincial Nominee Program processing times remained unchanged, at seven months for enhanced applications and 13 months for base applications.
