Canada Issues 3,500 Invitations to Trades Workers

Canada has opened another pathway to permanent residence for skilled trades workers through the latest Express Entry draw. On October 1, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3,500 invitations to apply for permanent residence to candidates who met the requirements of the Trades category.

Applicants needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 476 and had to meet the required work-experience criteria. Candidates with a score of 476 were selected under the tie-breaking rule if their Express Entry profiles had been created by May 28, 2026.

The changes apply to employer-specific work permits under both the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and International Mobility Program. The guidance also provides clarification on assessing employers whose businesses are operated from residential properties, when determining whether an employment offer meets the requirements.
