New provincial immigration targets for 2026 have been released by British Columbia. The new targets focus on healthcare professionals and early childhood educators to help address workforce shortages across the province.
The province plans to issue between 1,620 and 2,015 nominations to priority healthcare workers, while 360 to 440 early childhood educators could receive provincial nominations. Together, these groups may account for 31.7% to 39.3% of British Columbia’s total 6,254 Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) allocation for 2026. The healthcare priority list covers 31 occupations, including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, medical technologists and social workers. Early childhood educators must hold a recognized one- or five-year ECE certificate issued by the ECE Registry.
British Columbia has also committed to directing at least 35% of skilled-worker nominations across all sectors to individuals working outside Metro Vancouver. As of August 25, the province had invited 474 priority healthcare workers and 451 early childhood educators, for a combined 925 invitations to apply for provincial nomination.
